With Berta’s background in remedial exercise, treated a portrait painter, Mr. Simon Elwes who had a right hemiplegia. It took 18 months to develop her theory while treating the artist. She found that by stopping her patient from assuming abnormal positions, she was able to create new patterns of posture and movement for him. They become interested in the treatment of children with cerebral palsy. By 1951, they established their first treatment and education facility in London. Seven years later, they started to travel throughout the world as they were invited by professional associations and medical facilities to lecture and teach their concepts.
