Research for Change Gait depending on Hemiplegia Patients' Gait with Barefoot, with Ankle Foot Orthosis or with Regular Shoes

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the influence of new sole devices such as Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) or regular shoes on change of gait for hemiplegia patients. we’d like to research the necessity of treatments for hemiplegia patients from the early stage to the care of base of support. For 15 hemiplegia patients who can gait independently, we examined and analyzed the change of gait using with GAIT RITE and ANOVA when they gait barefoot, AFO on, or regular shoes on. As the result of the research, we found out that there were not any correlations in time factors of gait comparison between each group. However there were remarkable differences in space factors such as base of support, stride length, a left foot of gait angle and speed. The balance in gait is affected by putting both AFO and shoes on. The shoes with AFO enlarged the supporting space, and therefore stability on gait had improved at last.
