Abstract
A consideration in treatment of dysphagia is remedial versus compensatory intervention. Remedial treatment focuses on restoration of a level of swallowing and oral motor function, compensatory treatment circumvents a problem with the use of alternative techniques. Remedial treatment such as stimulation of techniques and exercises to enhance the swallowing reflex, alter muscle tone, and improve voluntary function of the orofacial, lingual, and laryngeal musculature were effective. Therefore, common problem and actual treatment skill were reviewed in this paper. Restoration of oral motor function and swallowing function of patient depends on the ability of therapist who can provide remedial intervention. Therefore continuing education and special training are require for competence in treatment of dysphagia. In addition, importance of team cooperation and patient and care-giver training is emphasize.
