Effects on Walking upon Improvement of Postural Control after Bobath Approach Therapy for Hemiplegic Patient

Abstract

Background and Purpose The purpose of this case report was to evaluate effects on gait upon improvement of postural

control after Bobath approach for left hemiplegia. Subjects and Methods This study has performed single subject design

from February to March 2009 for 6 weeks. The subject of this study was a 59-year-old male patient with left hemiplegia

who have been treated for physical therapy at the rehabilitation center. Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS) were used as evaluation tools. The subject was treated 5 times a week for 30minutes each. Results The results as following 1) Even though the walking velocity was little bit increased, the ability of gait was improved than before the training. 2) The score of TIS was increased from 13 to 16. Conclusion and Discussion According to the results, the treatment in this study improves subject's ability of postural control and walking.
