Effects of Y-strap Taping in Forward Head Position on Craniovertebral Angle, Lung Function, and Balance

Abstract

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Ystrap taping application on the CVA(craniovertebral angle), lung function, and balance in forward head position. Methods The subjects of this study were 20 in total, 10 in the experimental group and 10 in the control group. Ystrap taping was applied to the experimental group as an intervention method, and measurement was CVA(craniovertebral angle), pulmonary function was FVC(forced vital capacity), and FEV1(forced expiratory volume at one second), the Romberg test for balance was performed with eyes open and eyes closed. Result Significant differences were found in the comparison of eyes open and eyes closed conditions of CVA, FVC, FEV1, and Romberg test before and after Ystrap taping in the experimental group, but there was no significant difference in the control group. Significant differences were found in CVA, FVC, FEV1, and Romberg test in comparison between the experimental group and the control group. Conclusion Applying Ystrap taping to forward head position is effective in increasing CVA, FVC, FEV1, and Balance. It is effective in balancing the head by maintaining a straight head posture due to head forward posture, strengthening the respiratory muscles around the neck and shoulders, and restoring the normal function of the neck.
