Abstract
The purpose of the this study was to find out improved affected arm function in relation to the activities of daily living. The subjects were 15 stroke patients who were admitted for intensive care at National Rehabilitation Center from January to April, 2001. All subjects had 30 minutes treatment 5 times per week for 6 weeks. Modified Ashworth Scale, Modified Motor Assessment Scale, and Modified Barthel Index were used to measure the function of the improvement of spasticity, the affected arm function and the activities of daily living. The results were that the muscle spasticity in hand and activities of daily living were not significant correlated(p>0.05), but the hand function and ambulation showed the significance at the treatment of admission(p<0.05). The arm movement and self-care were significant related at the treatment of admission(p<0.05). The relationships between arm movement and ambulation was significant at admission and at the treatment of discharge(p<0.01). In conclusion, the daily living score with stroke patients is influenced by improvement of the affected arm function and showed strong relationship with arm movement. For the effective physical therapy treatment the self-care training and ambulation training should be included together in the physical therapy program.
