Effects Dynamic lnsole on Gait Pattern in Patients with Hemiplegia

Abstract

The Dynamic Insole(DI) is handmade fabricated insole with forefoot cushion to help gait pattern in patients with hemiplegia. The purpose of this study was to examine the changes in the temporal and kinematic data in gait pattern by comparing the differences between DI and Regular Insole(RI). Five hemiplegic patients who were able to walk assisted for at least 20 meters without aids were chosen for this study. The gait analysis was done by Vicon 512 Motion Analysis System. The results show that the comfort on gait using Visual Analogue Scale was improved with DI than RI in all cases. Among the temporal data, walking velocity, step length, stride length and single support during gait were increased with DI as compared with RI and double support was decreased. Among the kinematic data, maximal internal rotation angle of hip joint and maximal plantar flexion angle of ankle joint were decreased and maximal flexion angle of knee joint and maximal dorsiflexion angle of ankle joint were increased on gait with DI. But it was no significant differences. The results indicate that the comfort on gait and temporal data such as cadence, walking velocity, step length, stride length has improved in all patients with DI. The results of this study has a general limitation due to the restricted number of cases, but it will be able to supply basic data to select proper insole at the time hemiplegic patients can independent walk.
