Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare gait patterns and energy consumption in a child with athetoid cerebral palsy when he used axillary crutch, forearm crutch and 7-shaped crutch and to determine which crutch should be recommended a s a walking aid for that child. Alternation treatment design analysis was used. The results were as following : 1. The step time, speed and single support time in gait were increased with a 7-shaped crutch compared with other crutches. However, the double support time was increased with a axillary crutch compared with other crutches. 2 . Sagittal plane kinematic and kinetic profiles were more similar to normal profiles with a 7-shaped crutch than other crutches. 3. The energy consumption was increased with a 7-shaped crutch compared with other crutches. Therefore above results should be taken into account when we select the type of crutch during the rehabilitation process.
