The Effect of Aquatic Therapy on the Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and Pulmonary Function of Children with Cerebral Palsy

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aquatic therapy on the blood pressure, heart rate and pulmonary function of children with cerebral palsy. The subjects were 7 cerebral palsied children who were treated as outpatient a t Seoul Community Rehabilitation Center. The intervention program consisted o f aquatic therapy session once weekly, one session lasting 30 minutes, for a period of 4 weeks. Statistical significances of difference between pre-aquatic therapy and post-aquatic therapy were calculated according to the Wilcoxon signed rank test. The results of this study are as follows; 1. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure increased after aquatic therapy, but they did not show significant difference. 2. Heart rate increased after aquatic therapy, but they did not show significant difference. 3. There Were statistical significant difference in VC, FVC, and FEV between pre-aquatic therapy and post-aquatic therapy. But there were no statistical significant change in VE and TV after aquatic therapy.
