Abstract
Purpose This study was to investigate the effect of balance and gait ability through ankle joint strengthening exercise in stroke patient. Method The patient received physical therapy for 5 session 30 minutes per week during 6 weeks and ankle joint strengthening exercises on 30 minutes a day, five days a week during six weeks. Results were evaluated by static balance, dynamic balance and gait function. Result There was improvement by ankle joint strengthening exercise that the postural sway velocity with open eye and close eye, the dynamic balance, and the gait function. Conclusion Ankle joint strengthening exercise improves static balance, dynamic balance and gait function. These results suggest that ankle joint strengthening exercise is feasible and suitable for individuals with stroke.
