Abstract
Purpose The Purpose of this study was to investigate on recovery of wrist extensor muscle and hand function in combination with wrist extensor immobilization splint and hand intrinsic muscle facilitation. Methods 51 subjects who met the selection criteria were randomized into three groups which in intrinsic muscle facilitation with splint group(IMFSG), intrinsic muscle facilitation group(IMFG) and general occupation therapy group(GOTG). three groups conducted the appropriate approach five times a week for 30 minutes each for four weeks. In addition, IMFSG applied wrist splints for 90 minutes per day. We evaluated muscle activity of the wrist extensor muscle and hand function before and after intervention. Results Changes in the activity of wrist extensor muscle in group before and after intervention showed a significant difference in the IMFSG (p<0.01). The change of MFT in all group before and after intervention was significantly different between IMFSG (p<0.01) and IMFG (p<0.05). But changes in FMA in group before and after intervention showed a significant difference in all groups (p<0.05). Conclusion this study was to evaluate a recovery on wrist extensor and hand function with splint and intrinsic muscle facilitation. As a result, it was confirmed that the functional wrist position through wrist extensor immobilization splint and hand intrinsic muscle facilitation resulted in a positive recovery of hand function.
