Abstract
Purpose This study investigated the effects of dementia prevention gymnastics and elastic band exercise on depression and grip in elderly people in nursing facilities. Methods A total of 10 subjects with 6 in the experimental group performed dementia prevention gymnastics and elastic band exercise, and 4 in the control group participated in daily facility activities. Results As a result of the Wilcoxon rank sum test, there was no statistically significant difference in GDSFK, and the control group showed an increased of depression score. Conclusion Not all grip forces were statistically significant, but the experimental group maintained initial muscle strength, while the grip strength decreased in the control group. Based on this study, if dementia prevention gymnastics and elastic band exercise are considered effective treatments, physical activity programs are needed to reduce depression and maintain grip strength.
