Effects of Pelvis Movements Facilitation Exercises using Intrinsic Foot Muscle Activation onPostural Balance, Core Stability and Lower Limb Strength: A Single-Case

Abstract

Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of pelvis movements facilitation exercises using intrinsic foot muscle activation on postural balance, core stability and lower limb strength. Methods This study promoted intrinsic foot muscle activation and pelvic mobility in supine, sitting, and upright positions in a 79yearold patient with right hemiparesis due to cerebral infarction. Measurements used were standing posture alignment analysis, Five Times Sit To Stand(FTSTS), Functional Reach Test(FRT), Korean version Berg Balance Scale(KBBS), Korean Trunk Impairment Scale(KTIS), and Surface Electromyography(sEMG). The study was designed and conducted using ABA design among singlesubject research methods. Results The standing posture alignment analysis, FTSTS, FRT, KBBS, KTIS, and sEMG values showed significant changes in the intervention stage B, and this was maintained in the regression stage A'. Conclusion pelvis movements facilitation exercises using intrinsic foot muscle activation was effective in improving postural balance, core stability and lower limb strength.
