Abstract
Purpose This study investigates the effects of cognitive training and resistance band exercises on gait, anxiety, depression, and stress in older adults with sarcopenia. Methods The participants consisted of 24 older adults, randomly divided into two groups: 12 in the cognitive training and resistance band exercise group (Group I; CEG) and 12 in the resistance band exercise group (Group II; EG). The exercise regimen was conducted for 50 minutes a day, 5 times a week, for a total of 8 weeks. Changes before and after the 8week intervention were analyzed using paired t tests, and differences between the groups were assessed using independent t tests, with a significance level set at 0.05. Result Significant improvements were observed in gait, anxiety, depression, and stress levels in both CEG and EG after the intervention (p<0.05). Additionally, there were significant differences between the groups post intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion The results of this study indicate that cognitive training and resistance band exercises are effective in improving gait speed and reducing depression, anxiety, and stress in older adults with sarcopenia. Future research could explore various interventions to enhance physical functions and psychological wellbeing, ultimately improving the quality of life for the elderly.
